What is a bank routing number?

A bank routing number is a 9-digit number, printed at the bottom of your checks, which accompanies your business bank account number to identify the financial institution associated with your account.

What is a bank routing number used for?

You’ll need to know your bank routing number to set up direct deposit payments, pay bills online, make wire transfers, or to set up certain third-party, recurring withdrawals from your business bank account.

How do I find the routing number on my check?

There are two numbers printed at the bottom of each check:

  • The first 9-digit number is your bank routing number.
  • The second, 10- or 11-digit number is your bank account number.

Does the routing number change?

The bank routing number is connected to the financial institution and remains the same on all of your checks. The only number that changes is the check number, which is:

  • Printed in the top right-hand corner of the check.
  • After the account number at the bottom of the check.
  • Check numbers are sequential and can be used for reference and to track the number of checks you have used from your current book.

How do I find the bank routing number online?
