How to Get a Debit Card

Now that you know, what a debit card is, it’s time to learn how to get one. At Santander Bank, we know you need access to your funds as soon as possible. If you’re a new checking account customer, we’ll help you order a debit card as part of the application process. Need a replacement debit card? We’ve got you covered there, too.

How to Order a Replacement Debit Card

Whether your debit card is lost, stolen, or damaged, you can easily order a replacement debit card online, via our Mobile Banking app, in-person, or over the phone.

How to order a replacement debit card online:

  1. Log in to Online Banking.
  2. Choose “ATM and Debit Card Services” to request a new or replacement debit card.
  3. From the drop down menu, select the appropriate card and click “Continue.”
  4. Verify your personal information and click “Confirm.”

How to order a replacement debit card using our Mobile Banking app

  1. Log in to Santander Mobile Banking app.
  2. Click on “Manage Cards” from the menu.
  3. Order replacement card.



How to order a replacement debit card over the phone

Visit a local branch and speak to a representative to order a new debit card in person.

How to order a replacement debit card over the phone

Contact a Customer Service Representative at 877-768-2265, 6:00 AM – 10:00 PM ET, seven days a week, excluding Christmas Day.

How to Activate Your New Debit Card

Your new debit card and Personal Identification Number will arrive in the mail within 5–7 business days in unmarked envelopes. For additional security, your card and PIN will be mailed separately.

After you receive your new or replacement debit card in the mail, you can activate it in 1 of 3 ways:

  • Call 1-877-726-0631 and follow the phone instructions.
  • Visit a Santander Bank ATM (you will need your PIN).
  • Personal debit card holders can also activate it via our Mobile Banking app.
    (Not available for Business Banking customers.)

What to Do if You Lose/Damage Your Debit Card

Not sure where your debit card is? First and foremost, take advantage of our security feature, Santander® Instant Card Hold. Log in to Online Banking or your Mobile Banking App, click on the “ATM & Debit Card Services” tab in Online Banking or “Manage Cards” in Mobile Banking App, and select “Instant Card Hold” to immediately put your card on hold. If you find your debit card, go online to turn it back on.

How to cancel your debit card

As soon as you think your card is permanently lost or stolen, please call us immediately to cancel your debit card at 1-877-768-2265.

Santander®Instant Card Hold will block most types of transactions, including purchases made with your card. Please note that some types of transactions will continue to process, including recurring debit/credit transactions presented to us by certain merchants for monthly membership or subscription fees.
